Jan 6, 2020 Cashiers Planning Council Hearing Summary

The January 6th hearing before the Cashiers Planning Council was limited to addressing issues relating to which opponents of the proposed mega-development have "standing" as parties to the hearing process and which may participate in the proceeding as witnesses and questioners but not be deemed to have formal standing as parties. A total of 9 individuals with properties adjacent to the proposed development and 1 organization -- the Chattooga Conservancy -- were granted standing to participate as parties, since they would likely suffer special damages if the development were allowed to proceed. The Chattooga Conservancy and 3 of those individuals are represented by attorney John Noor, whose work is being funded by the legal defense fund to which many readers of this website have contributed. Another 17 persons or entities owning property in the general vicinity of the proposed project, including the Gana Sita Property Owners Association, have been allowed to participate as witnesses/questioners. The substance of the issues, i.e. the merits, will go forward for hearing at 9 am on January 25, with the possibility that a second day of merits hearing may be needed after that.
