We will soon have a new vaccine to protect against COVID19!
Many people are now asking: "Which vaccine should I get?"
The answer is: the best vaccine is the one you are offered first.
The newest vaccine on the market (made by Janssen/Johnson&Johnson) is going to be a powerful tool in quelling the COVID19 pandemic.
Clinical trial data indicated that this vaccine completely protects against COVID19-associated death and was extremely effective at protecting against severe infection.
This vaccine was tested at a different time than the first two (Moderna/Pfizer) and held up against variants - including the worrisome variant containing the N501Y mutation that is prevalent in South Africa, where a major arm of the clinical trail for this vaccine happened.
This vaccine also only requires one dose! Studies are currently underway determining if immunity can be enhanced with a second dose or a booster shot.
Oh - and remember to keep wearing your mask, even after your vaccinated to help protect those who are not vaccinated! Wearing a mask is the easy part of this pandemic mitigation response.
