My purpose is to empower students to achieve their personal, academic, and post-secondary goals. I believe that communities where students are both challenged and supported are where young people can truly thrive. I see the school counselor role as both an advocate and an educator, an integral part of the school community and a collaborative partner in a team that includes teachers, administration, and student services professionals.
Through my work in admissions at UNC Asheville and college access organizations like GEAR UP and AVID, I have developed a passion for supporting high school students and their families as they prepare for and navigate the college application process. I have made the transition to school counseling in order to better serve students in finding the path that is best for them. In my internship at NCSSM, I have had the privilege of working with students from a diverse range of communities across our state giving me the opportunity to develop culturally responsive counseling skills, create academic support plans, as well as guiding students and families through the college application process from the high school side.
I am currently working towards my Masters of Education in School Counseling at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill. This coming August, I will graduate from this CACREP accredited program with a K-12 school counseling license and a year of experience in the Counseling Department at the North Carolina School of Science and Math. I am eager to continue serving students and families in the triangle.
