Here are some plants from my garden: yarrow, lemon verbena, and calendula. I do not usually use these plants in my salves as my herb garden is very small. But I am working on one day making all my salve from my own garden! Right now I buy my herbs at either the local apothecary or health food store that has a wonderful bulk herb selection.
I like to put my herbs into a simple olive oil as I find that olive oil is the most hydrating and easy option.
the final steps:
Fill a pot a couple inches and heat the water to a bowl and then simmer. Place the mason jar with the oil and herbs into the water and let simmer for fifteen minutes.
Strain out the herbs and then pour the oil back into the mason jar.
heat the oil with pieces of beeswax. (I do not measure anything I just put a little in and then test the texture by letting some cool on a spoon and then adding more if I want the salve to be firmer)
Pour into your jars and let cool slowly.
