Key Differences in Incubation Bobwhite and Coturnix Quail
Duration: Coturnix (17–19 days) vs. Bobwhite (23–25 days).
Lockdown Lay on sides: Stop turning Coturnix on Day 15. Stop turning Bobwhite on Day 20.
Temperature: Both generally need 99.5-100 degree
Humidity: Generally 50%–55% during the first 15 and 20 days, rising to 60%–70% for the final 3-day lockdown.
Hatch Behavior: Quail, in general, hatch quickly once they pierce the shell, rarely taking long pauses, Do not open your incubator if chicks are wet and still hatching. after 24 hours you can remove hatched chicks quickly then mist the remaining unhatched eggs with warm water and lock down for 24 hours again.
Brooding and Growing differences Bobwhite & Coturnix
Brooder temperature: first 2 weeks 95* on both. then start reducing temperature a few degrees weekly.
Muturity and egg laying: Coturnix quail will muture and start laying eggs at 7-8 weeks of age. Bobwhite quail will muture and start laying eggs at 18-20 weeks of age.
