As educators, we are now working in a social environment saturated with electronic media, digital networks and interactive systems. We now have the ability to record, communicate and engage with multimedia content on a scale that has never been witnessed before in human history. With a strong passion for education and the sharing of ideas and stories, I am interested in using multimedia technology to create innovative experiences and learning resources.
As a graduate of the Bachelor of Visual Arts (Media Arts: Film & Digital Art) program with Honours (Class I) (completed at the University of Sydney in 2008), my primary speciality resides in film and multimedia production. My experience in video-production, photography, lighting and graphic design provides me with a unique technical skillset when approaching the creation of educational multimedia resources. Here, I am fascinated by the extent to which good user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design can support the delivery of multimedia content and contribute toward the effectiveness of an educational resource. It is for this reason that I am developing my skill set in front-end web development and user interaction, with the intention of applying this knowledge to my educational design work.
I am currently working as an educational designer at the University of Sydney and have been functioning in this role since January 2017. Here, I support academic and professional colleagues in the Faculty of Health Sciences via the production of high quality multimedia learning resources, the design of engaging learning structures on unit of study websites and the delivery of training workshops for staff interested in learning how to operate multimedia production technology independently. Maintaining an up to date knowledge of the latest developments in multimedia production hardware, software and user interaction has allowed me to approach the creative design process with a firm understanding of the most suitable systems, workflows and processes for a given project.
Prior to my current appointment, I have worked in the higher education sector as a teaching & curriculum officer, administrative assistant and library assistant. In addition to this, I have maintained a professional practice as a photographer, film-maker, graphic designer and creative coder.
I am applying for CMALT with the intention to both formalise my knowledge in the field of educational design. As a certified member of the Association for Learning Technology, I am interested in receiving recognition and future support from the global community of educational technology researchers and practitioners. I will use this portfolio as a driving force for continual personal reflection on the work that I am completing as an educational designer, with the goal of guiding my further professional development and growth as a learning technologist.
