Even if we separate all the existing political tensions between the states, in terms of trade and people-to-people contact, South Asia is one of the least integrated regions in the world. With an intention of regionalism, in year 1985 the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) was established consisting of eight states (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka) from South Asia.
