Experienced school leader and professional development designer, I combine knowledge from research and practice to design innovative solutions for schools.
With over 30 years experience working in schools, as a teacher, leader, headteacher and consultant and over ten years in academia, researching leadership and professional development, projects and programmes I lead combine research and practice knowledge and know-how to create new and innovative solutions for schools.
I have worked in both UK and international contexts and specialisms include:
Using research approaches to develop teachers’ and leaders’ practice, be it inquiring into aspects of their work or using research approaches as school improvement tools, with a particular focus on using lesson study;
Supporting innovation cultures in schools including using design thinking methodologies, developing a school culture in which innovation can thrive, implementation science and change management theories and practice;
Sharing good practice, especially making research accessible to teachers, and supporting teachers and leaders to publish their findings in accessible formats for other schools as knowledge mobilisation;
Supporting teachers to develop creative and more effective pedagogies including social construction and oracy, problem solving and metacognition, play-based learning, project-based learning and real world learning;
Impact evaluation, with a focus on mixed methods and participatory methodologies.
