Internship Experience

I am currently a Marketing Intern for Amy Henry State Farm. State Farm itself is a huge insurance company and widely known, but this specific State Farm location is owned and ran by an individual, Amy Henry, who got her license to do so. Currently, on a day to day basis, I work with getting more reviews and ratings for this State Farm location. I reach out to clients we recently had an appointment with and ask them to leave a rating and review. I also reach out to clients to schedule appointments to review the different insurance policies they have with us. We do this to make sure they understand what they are paying for and to understand their coverages. Another task I work on is building relationships with apartment complexes around the area. We do this in hopes of them eventually taking part in our renters insurance referral program. An apartment complex agreeing to do our renters insurance referral program means they will refer their residents to us to get renters insurance. This helps our State Farm location build clientele.

My main points of contact are my managers. One of my mangers is the one who hired me and gives me tasks to complete. She occasionally checks up on me to see how thing are going. My other manager is the one who trained me the most, and she checks in on me often too to see if I have any questions. I can go to either of them to address any questions or concerns I may have. Whenever I need to communicate with either of my managers I can just go to their office and talk to them. If they are in a meeting, I send them an email with my questions/concerns and wait for them to reach back out. Overall, the work environment is very "work alone". All of us, including myself, have our own office and computers we work from. I personally like when I can talk in person with my managers and co-workers, because it helps the day not drag as much.

So far, I have been able to learn a lot more of how a smaller company markets to gain clientele and build relationships with them. Throughout the projects I have been working on I have been able to grow in my marketing skills. I have been able to learn how to build new relationships with businesses around us, like the apartment complexes. At first it took some brainstorming on how to correctly and professionally approach those new relationships, but in the end it taught me a lot and helped me grow professionally.
