There are 3 core strands of the Students as Researchers Programme. Each programme strand follows a different approach to engage the school research community.
Staff and students across the school (undergraduate, masters and PhD) can apply to be matched into teams who will address a particular research question around mutual ideas. Teams will be led by an academic or professional services staff member who will be responsible for submitting the team application and delivering any research outputs.
From May til November 2025, teams will be expected to produce a piece of work (e.g. publication, paper, report, short film etc.) which will become available on the Students as Researchers site.
Students will be paid an hourly rate, and expected to work around 40 hours in total on their project.
In Autumn 2025, each of the 12 Schools will be allocated up to £15,000 to propose and deliver initiatives and projects which bring together education and research.
This is an opportunity for staff to recruit students to support research and also generate new ideas.
The Project Advisory Board will decide on annual initiatives which support university-wide activity and incorporate both internal and external partnership.
Activities are likely to include:
student research conferences
bursaries to support knowledge sharing
development of journals to share and promote work
employer events
cross university research skills training
