Dr. Kumar’s research interests focus on understanding bacterial genetics and physiology, with an emphasis on the role and regulation of transcription factors and gene expression in response to various stresses, such as lignotoxins, antibiotics, heat, and other environmental factors. His work spans both model and non-model microorganisms, including renewable energy producers (e.g., Zymomonas mobilis). His research also extends to elucidating the molecular mechanisms of biofilm regulation and investigating natural antimicrobial compounds to develop treatment strategies against multidrug-resistant pathogens (e.g., Staphylococcus aureus).
