FAQ

Just bring yourself, some loose fitting clothes and a bottle of water. Your first lesson is free there is no obligation to pay or purchase uniform. Just join in and enjoy training!

I have never done martial arts or Kung Fu before

That's actually a good thing! That means you have a 'clean' slate so to speak you may even find it easier to learn faster than others who have had experience. Our lessons are structured so that beginners and experts get the best out of training at our club, everyone learns from each other.

Am I too old to do Kung Fu?

No one is too old to do kung fu........ Did you know there are some practitioners over the age of 90! That's because there are external and internal versions of techniques within the style. Through our teaching process you will become more flexible, stronger, have improved posture and live a healthier life. Kung Fu not only improves the physical body but also the mind and Chi flow within each and every individual. Kung Fu is not just a hour lesson but a way of life.

How do you do gradings?

We don't use belts or coloured sashes. We believe that students should be graded on ability when they are ready. There are no set amount of lessons to attend it depends on how much you train not only in class but in your personal time. Students ask to grade when they feel they are ready. All our Grades are hard to pass to make you the best that you can be.

Do I have to fight?

Not if you don't want to. San shou is only offered to those who we believe are ready for it mentally and physically. We don't look at it as fighting just as a way to demonstrate the skills we have learnt in a friendly environment. People wanting to fight for any other reasons will not be allowed to learn sanshou.

Is it Religious?

Kung Fu is influenced by Buddhist Philosophy but you do not need to be Religious to learn it. We have many different people of different Religions learning at our school from Christians, Atheists and Muslims. We do not teach anything related to religious beliefs.

Should children study Kung Fu?

YES! Kung Fu is perfect for children aged 5 and up. It teaches discipline, encourages self improvement, confidence, life skills and social interaction. The earlier you get your child into the right Martial Arts school the more they benefit from early training later in in life. Children learn at a faster rate and this enables them to build up a flawless strong foundation.

What is Chi?

Chi (pronounced chee and also spelled qi or ch’i) is your internal energy. Life giving energy within the body, mind and spirit. Everyone and everything thing has Chi. Chi is life force found in all living things and when you die, your Chi is no longer there.

It can take a lifetime of study to understand and develop Chi. You can improve your chi flow through breathing exercises and simple movements.

With more Chi you can live a more balanced healthy life through the natural flow of your energy . Good health and strong, balanced Chi are almost one and the same.

Even though your Chi is located in your whole body your dantian is the best home for your Chi. Your dantien is just below your navel and several inches in toward your spine.

Without Chi there is no life, there is no Kung Fu.

Rankings/ Colour belt systems

Schools use these systems to award students progress. At SANSHU UK students progress through the ranks through recognition of hard training. There is no instant recognition to the colour belt round the waist but instead to the performance within class.
