San Pablo City is committed to promoting the health and well-being of its residents, which is why the city has implemented a comprehensive tobacco control program. Our goal is to reduce tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke in public places.
As part of our efforts, San Pablo City strictly enforces Republic Act 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003. This law prohibits smoking in public places such as schools, hospitals, government offices, and other enclosed public areas. It also mandates the placement of graphic health warnings on cigarette packages to discourage smoking.
In addition, San Pablo City has its own ordinance called the San Pablo City Comprehensive Tobacco Control Ordinance. This ordinance further strengthens the implementation of RA 9211 and prohibits the sale and distribution of cigarettes to minors. It also prohibits smoking in parks, playgrounds, and other outdoor recreational areas.
San Pablo City's tobacco control program also includes various activities such as advocacy campaigns, health education programs, and regular monitoring and evaluation of tobacco control policies. We believe that these efforts will help reduce the number of smokers in our city and improve the health of our residents.
It is important to note that the Philippines has several laws and regulations related to tobacco control. In addition to RA 9211, the country also has the Sin Tax Reform Law of 2012, which increased taxes on tobacco products and earmarked the revenue for health programs. The Graphic Health Warning Law of 2014 mandated the use of picture-based warnings on cigarette packages. The recently passed Tobacco Tax Reform Law of 2019 further increased taxes on tobacco products and earmarked the revenue for universal health care.
