HUMSS opens doors to a wide range of opportunities that shape future leaders and changemakers.
The Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strand opens doors to many exciting career paths for students who love connecting with people, sharing ideas, and making a difference in society. With its focus on communication, critical thinking, leadership, and creativity, HUMSS equips students with the skills they need to thrive in the real world.
Graduates of HUMSS can become teachers, professors, or guidance counselors who inspire the next generation. Others may pursue law, politics, or public service to help shape communities and defend justice. Those with a passion for storytelling can shine in media and communication as journalists, writers, editors, or broadcasters. HUMSS also prepares students for careers in the social sciences, such as psychology, sociology, history, and social work, where they can better understand and support people.
For the creatively inclined, HUMSS offers opportunities in the arts and entertainment industry, from acting and directing to writing and visual arts. Even in the corporate world, HUMSS graduates can excel as human resource specialists, corporate trainers, or managers who build strong workplace connections.
In short, HUMSS prepares students not just for jobs, but for meaningful careers where understanding people, culture, and society truly matter.
INTERVIEWS
According to Stephanie Baguio, a Grade 11 HUMSS student in the HUMSS strand: “I chose HUMSS because it matches my future course, Criminology. It has helped me gain confidence in speaking and expressing my ideas while focusing on people, communication, and social issues. I enjoy subjects like Oral Communication and Social Sciences, as well as discussions and presentations where I can share my perspectives. The challenge is the heavy reading and writing, but I manage it through time management and by seeking help when needed. For me, HUMSS is preparing me by strengthening my communication and analytical skills, which are important in law enforcement. My advice to junior high students is to choose HUMSS if they are interested in people and communication, and to be ready for reading, writing, and speaking tasks that will prepare them for college and future careers.”
According to Ma'am Maria Theresa Dalumpines, a teacher in HUMSS 12: "My role as an adviser of the Grade 12 Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) section, is to guide, support, and mentor students in both their academic and personal development. Help them navigate their final year of senior high school, prepare for college or careers in the social sciences, and foster a positive, respectful, and growth-oriented classroom environment. Handling different batches of Grade 12 HUMSS learners has given me rich experiences in adapting to diverse learning styles, managing varied student needs, and fostering growth in both academic and personal aspects. Each batch taught me patience, flexibility, and the importance of building strong teacher-student relationships".
