ABOUT HUMSS
ABOUT HUMSS
HUMSS, or Humanities and Social Sciences, is one of the five academic strands offered in the Philippines’ Senior High School, under the K–12 system. It’s designed for students with a keen interest in exploring society, culture, human behavior, communication, and critical thinking.
Prepares students for tertiary programs in liberal arts, education, communication, and social sciences.
Cultivates critical thinking, empathy, communication, and analytical ability through diverse subjects in culture, politics, arts, literature, and society.
This strand is suited for students interested in current issues, society as well as human behavior. It suits those into reading, writing, public speaking, debating, who analyze social trends, and who understand different perspectives. HUMSS is designed for those communicators and those educators who do aim to contribute in positive ways to their communities. It is also intended for future leaders along with professionals that share the same aim.
HUMSS students take Creative Writing, Journalism, Philippine Politics and Governance, Social Sciences, World Religions and Belief Systems, and Creative Nonfiction. These are the subjects by which communication, research, and critical analysis skills are built. Such skills are necessary during college as well as future careers.
HUMSS strand opens chances in education, law, psychology, politics, communication, literature, and public service. Leading discussions, influencing social change, and making a meaningful impact upon society makes it the best choice for students.
