To provide opportunities for personal development and preparation for adult life.
Through Sanger High FCCLA and Family and Consumer Science classes, Sanger High School ensures that each student who leaves here will feel prepared and ready to take on adulthood. One activity our chapter offered this year was a workshop where Sanger High FCCLA members were invited to join the culinary class in meeting with a mystery chef and learn some new cooking skills that they may not have learned otherwise.
2. To strengthen the function of the family as a basic unit of society.
Having family as the basic unit of society is important to ensure that children learn proper life values. Through FCCLA and FCS, Sanger High School is able to help strengthen the function of the family and educate students on good family relationships. Recently, Sanger High FCCLA and the Principles of Human Services class offered at our school joined each other in learning about what it means to have healthy relationships and how to strengthen family ties.
3. To encourage democracy through cooperative action in the home and community.
Teamwork is one of Sanger High FCCLA's most important values. Because of this, our chapter tries its hardest to provide several different events throughout the year to promote teamwork within our school. One thing that Sanger High FCCLA offers is the opportunity for students to work together in STAR events and create a project to compete with at the region, state, and national level.
4. To encourage individual and group involvement in helping achieve global cooperation and harmony.
Working together to achieve global cooperation and harmony is what FCCLA is truly about. Even just helping one person can spark world change. Because of this, Sanger High FCCLA participates in the "We Help Two" sock selling fundraiser. Not only are we able to use these sales for the betterment of our program, the company also donates socks to local homeless shelters every time we make a sale.
5. To promote greater understanding between youth and adults.
Every year, Sanger High FCCLA attends several events throughout the year where students are able to collaborate with adults in various activities. One example of this is simply that FCCLA is a student-led organization. Because students are in charge of planning and leading others, youth and adults are able to understand each other better within leadership roles.
6. To provide opportunities for making decisions and for assuming responsibilities.
Decision making is something that is extremely important to success. Because of this, Sanger High FCCLA offers plenty of different opportunities for students to take responsibility and make decisions for the betterment of both themselves and their chapter. One example of this is running for office. Our officer team is tasked with taking on a leadership position through keeping members up to date, running the meetings, and organizing events. Any member of our chapter is allowed to run for office.
7. To prepare for the multiple roles of men and women in today's society.
FCCLA and FCS classes are extremely important when it comes to preparing youth for their futures. Because of this, each FCS student and Sanger High FCCLA member had the opportunity to fill out a paper to identify what roles they fill currently and prepare for what roles they will possibly be filling in the future.
8. To promote Family and Consumer Sciences and related occupations.
Sanger High FCCLA has participated in many different FCS related activities, one of which includes a visit to the Cook Children's Hospital to drop off gathered materials from our Kick It Kodi coloring book drive. Each member that attended had the opportunity to learn about being a child life specialist, homebound teaching, child psychology, and fundraising for the hospital. This activity was a great success. Not only did we bring in hundreds of items for the children, but we also learned more about many different FCS related occupations.
