Arthur Griffin joined Thornton Research Centre on 21st August 1940 and carried out research work on aviation gasolines, both during and after the Second World War.

Arthur was Vice Captain when he died suddenly on 12th December 1953.

His widow donated a trophy, which has been played for every year since 1954.
