The Cinéma Africain! International Film Festival is dedicated to showcasing a vibrant and youthful Africa through the power of film, challenging western stereotypes, and fostering a deeper understanding of the African continent and its global diaspora by presenting groundbreaking, artistically innovative works from Africa and the African diaspora, outside of the mainstream.
From intimate portraits to socially critical documentaries, the festival provides comprehensive insight into the continent’s varied realities and artistic expressions, delving into themes such as mythology, identity, colonialism, feminism, and coming of age — especially through narratives and perspectives by and about women.

The collective work Unruly Thoughts. On feminisms and beyond is made of poems, stories, essays, interviews, and academic works by thinkers and artists worldwide and contributes contemporary perspectives with a focus on countries in Africa and the African diaspora.

The festivals aim is to bring together feminist perspectives apart from Eurocentric thought patterns and to offer a counterpoint to current global political movements which try to force a step backwards in social, intellectual, democratic and feminist achievements. Whilst exclusion and limitations determine today’s political discourse, the festival negotiates different positions and strategies of women* in the fight for equal rights and justice.

As counter-images to the prevailing "Africa" reception, we travel from a post-apocalyptic love story in Addis Ababa, the LGBTI movement in Kenya, a British-Nigerian comedy drama by two brothers in London, the Afro-Hipster milieu in Johannesburg, Kuduro music in Angola, a pidgin rap musical in Accra, afrofuturistic space travel in Zambia, internet fraud paired with voodoo magic in Ghana, a superhero in Burkina Faso to a lonely Hitler clone in Ethiopia.
