Sandip attended Mendenhall Elementary and Bowman Middle School, where he participated in the choral programs and played the piano. (View the video below to glimpse his burgeoning talent.) Music continued to be an integral part of Sandip’s adult life, and he wished to play again in the future - or perhaps teach his children how to play one day. Now, a part of Sandip’s legacy takes the form of a music education fund with the Plano Symphony Orchestra. This fund subsidizes year-long private music lessons for four students every year, as part of the PSO Scholarship Program. Additionally, the fund subsidizes the tuition of four budding musicians in the PSO Summer Program each year. Sandip may never be able to play again … but his music lives on through the students of the Plano Symphony Orchestra. Thank you, Sandip.
Sandip attended Mendenhall for primary school, where he joined the Younger Generation choir and first discovered his musical talents. Over time, however, Mendenhall has lost funding and the music program now relies on donations to continue offering music education to students. Thus, Sandip's estate gifted a new set of musical instruments and funds for additional program initiatives. The school shared Sandip's impact:
"The children have really enjoyed playing the xylos and the classes are moving so much quicker/smoother with the differentiation of the colored bars. Everyone here is extremely thankful for the donation and Sandip's name is now forever synonymous with Mendenhall's music program. As a Title I school, many of Mendenhall’s students face financial barriers that can limit access to enrichment opportunities. Sandip's generosity will allow the school to offer instruments that otherwise might be beyond reach for many of our students. Through music, children discover creativity, confidence, discipline, and the joy of working together toward a common goal. For some students, the instrument they first hold because of your gift may spark a lifelong love of music and learning. Sandip's memory will continue to inspire young minds and hearts for years to come. Countless children will have the opportunity to experience the beauty and wonder of music. Sandip's gift is not simply providing instruments - it is creating opportunities, opening doors, and enriching the lives of students who will benefit from the lasting impact of music education."
Uncle / Cousin Sandip gifted multiple pianos to his friends' children and cousins. Others display his original sheet music on their walls, framed to preserve his pencil marks from practice. Through all of them, his music will live on.
If you play yourself, feel free to download any of his sheet music below and think of him when you play.
