I believe our Indian ancestors were really scientific and logical. Each and every Hindu tradition or limitations are part of that science. I don't know who missed it, but either they missed to teach us the reasons (why) for the same OR we forgot or were not capable of understanding the reasons, we will never know. Some pandits and baba do know this, you will have to find the right person to get the right answers.
Even today we sometimes blindly follow them without knowing the actual reason and sometime end up defeating the primary purpose for which the tradition exist in the first place.
In this post I want to write about the Menstrual Cycle and 2 major taboo that are being followed in our society.
Women are not alllowed to enter temples do prayers, not enter kitchen etc - During early civilisation, there were lot of work that women needs to do. Taking care of household, cooking meals, taking care of children, Pooja etc. During MC, women are not allowed to do any such activities, not even take your own food from kitchen. My interpretation is that MC is a very painful time for women, as a society we should reduce the burden on them and let them rest during that time. Hence, we should be doing all the tasks on their behalf, they should just rest and we should be the one bringing them food and be at their service during these painful times. It is as simple as "not allowed to enter kitchen" is actually "we will cook food and get it to you, you just rest, dont worry about it"
Whatever piece of cloth MC women touches needs to be washed - Again, this seems to be time sensitive, during early civilisation there were no pads or anything to contain the bleeding. There were high chances of clothes or bedsheet getting contaminated and over exposure can lead to illness of the women or the family members, again nothing on morality just basic hygiene. Hence, one should wah the bedsheets or clothes that they wore during the MC. Today also we wash even the curtains that we touch, whereas bedsheets and clothes are fine curtains can be overkill, but again if there is any tiny chance also with the health of our loved ones, we dont want to kae chances. So may be yeah you should wash everything, but do it for the right reason.
Dont want to hurt any sentiments, again these are my personal opinions and interpretations.
