A ridiculous Do-It-Yourself Airpod
I started this project in December of 2018 when my friend got a new pair of Apple Airpods for his birthday. I thought they were pretty cool until he told me that they cost over $250 and I thought to myself “that’s quite a lot of money for something I can make at home.”
I started to do some research on making my own Airpods and googled “diy airpods.” After the 50th video of people cutting their earbud wires off, I decided to take my own approach.
Purchasing a hands free bone conduction headset from ebay, I took apart the shell and revealed the electronics circuit board.
After that, I unsoldered the wires to the original bone conduction speaker and soldered on my old apple earbud speaker.
Then, I hot glued the apple earbud shell around the new pcb and speaker.
This gave me a chance to practice my soldering skills, and was mostly a joke rather than anything serious.
Funny enough, this project (despite taking maybe an hour to complete) is also my most famous. It has international recognition from tech-news outlets around the globe and if you'd like to read any of them, they're featured below.
