Incomplete describes the fact that people are occupied with everyday life anxiety; always in a working-travailing-sleeping cycle. People are so busy, yet they still feel incomplete inside. The idea of this piece was inspired by the story of an auditor in Hong Kong. She was longing for freedom and meaning in her life. However, she must face the reality and work on regular basis; usually from 9am to 3am next day. She appears to be complete from the outside, but she is incomplete inside. At the beginning, this piece uses a limited set of pitches (3 pitches) that then are expanded into 12 pitches, and at the end there NO pitch. This process describes the status of human existence in our modern society.
This piece was composed for the Toolbox Percussion composition fellowship program in 2022, and it was performed by New Morse Code Duo in August 2022.
