Clemson's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute is a membership community of nearly 1,100 individuals that is member driven and volunteer lead. OLLI offers over 500 courses to foster creativity and community through education, focus groups and travel within the older adult population.
As the event coordinator intern, I was responsible for every aspect of events, coordinating with businesses, budgeting and directing personnel. Likewise, I had the pleasure of creating events that brought together both the community and OLLI members.
In the fall of 2022 I was in charge of putting together three events. For the final event, I had two criteria, create an event that provides hope, and show how the older generation can still make a difference in today's world. After hearing Mable Clarke's story on the church prevailing through generations of hardships, I knew it would exceed expectations. Thanks to Mable, she was able to preserve history indefinitely, starting at the age of 65.
From the ground up, I built this event. I forged a connection with Mable, booked venues and caterers and executed a self made marketing plan. Most of all, I created a space that exposed people to the differences they can make in the world during the second chapter of their lives.
