Title: Intern
Kristen Forbes EVE Foundation is a non-profit organization that advocates for eradication of HPV. The mission statement for Kristen Forbes EVE Foundation is to use education and outreach to encourage cancer screenings, to see people choosing vaccination, and to create a community of support and guidance for those affected by HPV.While being an intern for Kristen Forbes EVE Foundation, I was able to create a new LinkedIn page and a mail subscription website. Another one of my responsibilities is to apply for grants and search for them. I also collaborated with organizational leaders to update and create a new form of newsletters. I have been able to help make changes or suggestions for the website and upcoming newsletters.
At the beginning of my internship, I set learning objectives for HSM competencies: Website updates (information not programming), social media campaigns, grant seeking, working with the board, and Immunization Collation. I will be able to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders for establishing grant emails or other professional communications. I will also be able to gain a transferable skill in how to create grant proposals and social media campaigns.
I have effectively progressed towards meeting these goals by working with organizational leaders to create the best outcomes for the Kristen Forbes EVE Foundation. I however have not been able to work with the Immunization Collation because of a certain situation that was out of my control. We did decide to put a hold on the College Initiative with the Immunization Collation for the whole semester.
Throughout my experience with Kristen Forbes EVE Foundation, I have gained new skills and opportunities to learn as much as possible about healthcare and HPV. I have been a great asset to the team of Kristen Forbes EVE Foundation and have provided new ideas or suggestions to help them along the way. This internship has shown me how to accomplish work with deadlines and to establish what is more important to work on during these deadlines.
Although I have learned and had the chance to grow myself as a professional through this position, I hope to continue my learning through new opportunities. I want to find a job where I can learn as much as possible to help further educate me.
While being a student that has many classes, they have shown me how to be responsible, and complete work on time. Some things I have learned in my classes that I have used during my internship would include being professional, learning, asking as many questions as possible, addressing any concerns or changes that I may have, giving advice when asked, and overall being prepared for communication. Some of the classes that helped me be most prepared for my internship would include Capstone, Lean Methodology in Healthcare Organizations, Professions in the Healthcare Workplace, and Career Preparation Health Management. Two of my classes which include Capstone and Career Preparation in Health Management, helped me understand what work experience is like and how to be prepared for our future careers or internships. My other classes also helped give me information for my internships and how to be a professional. I wish we were offered a class on Excel because it would have been very useful to understand more basic commands or functions that I may not know right after graduation. I did use Excel during this internship but I did not go out of my comfort zone while using it.
