DESCRIPTION
The movements were born from the submersion into the oneiric realms. The collection of disconcerting images sculpted the environment which constantly shape-shifted during the presentation. The logics of the project were built upon the absurd, and the backstage ended up being a bigger story teller than what is obviously in front of our eyes.
6 Killings 5 Ghosts is the result of the work done throughout a residency in Galeria do Sol. During the two months of the stay, the artists committed themselves to sleep in the gallery and maintain a rigid routine (nutrition, practices and rituals) in order to enhance and collect the dreams that they dreamt there. Additionally, they occasionally opened the gallery for the public to share their own dreams, which ended up creating a huge archive of images, movements and objects. The project manifested itself in the form of a two hours happening with four performers, utilising all of the objects, images, costumes and actions that were taken and reproduced from the dream archive, resulting in a weird and dreamy montage that glued all of these experiences into one fast paced and unsettling show: A boxer singing Ivete Sangalo with her mouth full of corn; a flautist going in circles gravitating towards a painter using a rotating pink soup as paint; a scavenger in a snow suit commanding people to make symbols and formations with bags of dirt; a person walking through a path of sticks to sneak up on a sculptor while a museum guard limits their movement; a live soap opera of two lovers having a fight in the middle of the performance - just to name a few.
