Monohull / multihull. Monohull most likely. Multihulls offer restricted possibilities sailing upwind.
Size: 50 foot + (14 meters). We want to be comfortable with some crew not knowing each other.
Cabins: ideally 3 cabins +
Sturdy. No need for steel or aluminium, Allows errors made while manoeuvring. Ability for easy maintenance on remote places.
Speed at tacking or downwind. As probably most of the circumnavigation should be downwind. Definitely not a slow boat
Easy to sail with a small crew of 2-3 with no need for electric winches.
Not flashy, particularly if we sail in poorer countries. NO FANCY EQUIPMENT that needs repairing. this will probably be removed.
Equipment. By no means a replication of the confort on shore (no dishwasher). No washing machine, No, freezer, single bathroom, no airconditioning will not be . Water maker to be discussed.
Electronics: AIS; EPIRB, GPS, of course. Add Starlink.
Environmental friendliness. Avoid the need for engine use as much as possible, hence good maneuvring capabilities needed
Financing / resale value. Good resale value potential. Boat not too old, ideally starting from the 1970 / 1980's as these have a reputation of being sturdier boats.
Tropicalized Fit for warm weather and tropical areas. Larger ccckpit. It is very unlikely I sail in cold waters. No need for heating . E.g. Have mosquito nets and mini fans.
Draught. Minimal draught to enable easy anchoring lagoons or beaching.
