Research
We harness organic synthesis, often regarded as the most sophisticated form of molecular construction, to uncover and create new biological functions. Our research is particularly focused on developing innovative synthetic technologies for lipids, enabling us to explore uncharted frontiers in the life sciences.
Among the four major classes of biomolecules (nucleic acids, peptides, glycans, and lipids), lipids possess the richest carbon-based structures, which are within the expertise of organic synthesis. However, compared with the other biomolecule classes, synthetic methods that provide broad and systematic access to structurally diverse lipids remain underdeveloped. As a result, our understanding of lipid biology and the translation of lipid science into therapeutic applications have lagged behind.
Our goal is to solve this challenge in modern synthetic organic chemistry and to create molecules, technologies, and knowledge that make a lasting impact—opening new frontiers in the life sciences.
