Modern Rock Vocals at its best - John Garcia
Modern Rock Vocals at its best - John Garcia
Though Unida's been touring with another live singer since '22, JG does reassuringly pop up here & there. With a career of 35+ years, no shortage of material to choose from! New guy (Mark Sunshine) is fine, but there's only one JG!
◁ what a powerful opening on vocals! (full song not this clip)
It's so compelling with the force & all the upward inflections!
Hermano - The Bottle (sometimes the embed doesn't work)
Foreground: The future 3 Golden Boys...little did they know!
It's astonishing how one band, the legendary Kyuss, had 3 of its members find that everything they touched turned to gold.
Brant Bjork is an absolutely solid blues-rock musician, other influences too, with the biggest catalogue of all of them - 16 albums! Like JG he finds top musicians to play with, almost always achieving the difficult task of bringing the old to the new in a fresh and compelling way.
Josh Homme...Queens of the Stone Age...

You can watch this video for some highlights of his singing, you can also see my Spotify playlist which is every track available for streaming that he's been in. And you'll see on the many tracks by other artists he's featured on, how he transforms them!
He has an incredibly compelling style, very good instincts for when to lean on a syllable, how to "attack" the line, & his very characteristic "always almost screaming" (as I like to call it) upper register voice, he pushes hard constantly - I can sing most other rock singers' styles but his is one of the difficult ones.
As for his bands, after starting in '87 with Katzenjammer & releasing a demo (most of which is on their 1st album as Kyuss):
Kyuss 4 albums '89 - '95
Slo Burn 1 album '96 - '98
Hermano 4 studio albums '98 -
Unida 1 studio, 1 split EP, 1 unreleased. Also formed 1998
⇖ see my vid for more info on that 2nd album, it's the best modern rock album!!
Do yourself a favour and check out his work, you might find a new favourite!
