For over 15 years, I worked in general veterinary medicine as a veterinary technician, gaining hands-on experience with animals of all kinds. In June 2021, I joined Memphis Animal Services, where I truly saw it all — the good, the bad, and the unforgettable. Over time, I realized that it’s not only companion animals who suffer; livestock often face just as much hardship, yet their stories are heard far less.
In May 2024, everything changed. We rescued our first horses — a turning point that ignited my passion for equine rescue. Soon after, we took in an abandoned horse, then drove to Mississippi to save a severely underweight gelding. Not long after, we met Gina, the founder of Sadie’s Horse Haven, and I knew in my heart this was where God wanted me to be.
Horses have a unique ability to heal. The way they can calm your soul and even feel your heartbeat from a distance will always amaze me. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to lead Sadie’s Horse Haven and to continue growing our mission of compassion, rescue, and second chances for every horse who needs us.
Bobby Kellum: Trainer/Transporter
Bobby Kellum has been around horses for as long as he can remember. Growing up with a deep respect for these incredible animals, he went on to spend several years competing in the rodeo circuit, where his passion and grit were showcased in bareback bronc riding. At one time, Bobby owned and cared for a herd of 20 horses, giving him invaluable hands-on experience in horsemanship and care.
With years dedicated to breaking and training horses, Bobby has developed a patient yet firm approach that focuses on building trust and understanding with every animal he works with. His love for horses and commitment to their well-being came full circle last year, when he and Jessie rescued their first two horses. Since then, they have welcomed 2 more horse, confirming their calling.
At Sadie’s Horse Haven, Bobby takes the lead in assessing, handling, and training each new arrival. His goal is not just to help horses heal physically, but also to prepare them for a brighter future.
Danielle began riding horses at a young age on trail rides. Her love and passion for them grew and she began taking hunter/jumper classes in her early teens. Now, she loves rescuing and caring for them, as well as her 3 rescue cats and 2 rescue dogs. She has adopted 2 horses from Sadie's and has another owner surrender they adopted as well. At Sadie's she assists Gina in any way that is necessary to keep things moving as smoothly as possible. When not caring for the horses and other animals, she is the wife and mother to 4 children. Her 4 children also volunteer and assist at Sadie's Horse Haven. It has become their home away from home.
Gina is a native to Memphis and grew up riding horses. She received her first horse when she was 14 and became enthralled. She began taking hunter/jumper lessons. She worked for a hunter jumper barn in Germantown, TN where she learned many horsemanship skills and exceled at caring for them. While there, her passion and vision grew and Sadie's Horse Haven was born; a place for re-homing, rescue, and care. The rescue was established April of 2020. When not caring for horses, she is a wife and mother to 4 children and 2 grandchildren.
Isabelle developed a love for horses when she was a toddler, she started riding lessons in her early teens at an English horsemanship barn in Eads, TN. She learned basic English riding skills and horsemanship there. Many of the horses at the barn she rode at were rescues, so she soon developed a love for the horses nobody wanted! She saw what not many people saw in the "problemed" and older horses. She started volunteering at SHH in 2023. She has learned how to care for horses here. She also learned how to canter and jump on rescue horses at SHH with the instruction of her mother, Gina, & other volunteers. Isabelle fell in love with her two heart horses volunteering at SHH and her family adopted them both, as well as another mare the family rescued.
