While observing the still life set up, initially I focused on capturing the objects in the scene representationally, but this approach was limiting. I then experimented with the yuplo paper, which generated interesting effects with the colored inks, especially when I layered values to create the dripping motion.

While completing this piece instead of focusing on the scene itself, I paid attention and detailed the negative space of the still life instead of the objects themselves. I think the color harmony and variation in line weight/value was successful here.
In November, Alex and I went to the Waltham Mills Open Studios. My favorite works we saw were by artist Genevieve Cohn ( http://genevievecohn.com). I like her treatment of the figure and unique lighting in her paintings. Her vibrant colors and bold geometric shapes convey the narrative of powerful women she is communicating through her paintings. In this work below, "Night Watch" I enjoy the dark background and vivid figures together.
Next semester I hope to create another Waltham Mills interior inspired piece. This photo I took which I edited the lighting on I really like because of the warm tones inside and cooler tones in the background past the windows. The studio scene feels warm and comforting, and I think the balance of textiles hanging and the rigidity of the walls and windows would be visually pleasing.
