Educational simulation design & immersive learning in Higher Ed
In collaboration with the Teaching and Learning Lab at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, I am working on a project around the use of simulations in higher education contexts. Under the guidance of Dr. William Wisser, Director of the TLL, I am working with Alessandra Lopez to research effective educational simulation design, piloting the ViewPoint simulations platform by creating a working scenario-based simulation prototype, and conducting user research.
We began our process by conducting a literature review to find out what makes for effective simulation design and performing expert interviews with faculty at HGSE who are already using simulations in their classrooms and beyond. After summarizing our takeaways in an easy-to-reference graphic, we created empathy maps and began scripting our own case-study scenario for our simulation - which revolved around a learning design kick-off meeting! After doing user testing and receiving feedback from real-world learning designers and project managers in the TLL, we continued to iterate on the simulation script and finally migrated it into the Viewpoint platform.
Our final presentation, which summarizes the project's process and outcomes, can be found below:

Check out some screenshots below of the simulation in the Viewpoint platform in edit mode (what Alessa and I saw as we designed)! The participants would not be able to see all resources until they were scheduled to be delivered.
