Summer School on Speech Signal Processing (S4P) 2024

6th - 10th  July 2024

Organized By:

Dhirubhai Ambani Institute of Information and Communication Technology  (DA-IICT) Gandhinagar

Summer School on Speech Signal Processing (S4P) 2024

Summer School on Speech Signal Processing (S4P) is being organized as a part of summer school activities at Speech Research Lab, DA-IICT, Gandhinagar. It will provide opportunities for students, researchers, and professionals to enhance their fundamentals and get exposed to cutting edge research areas in the field of speech signal processing. The school constitutes of a theme topic and tutorials surrounding it. S4P 2024 is the sixth summer school at DA-IICT following the earlier five- very successful ISCA supported summer schools, namely, S4P 2019, S4P 2018, S4P 2017, S4P 2016, and ASAP 2016 focusing on different topics in the broad area of speech signal processing.

S4P 2024 is targeted mainly towards graduate/post-graduate students, college teachers/faculty in educational institutions, and scientists/researchers in research laboratories/industries, who are interested in this area and would like to learn more about this area from some of the best researchers in the world.

FOCUS: Automatic Speech Recognition (ASR)

ASR deals with recognizing the linguistic context from speech or converting speech into text with the help of machines. ASR system is now a key component of commercially successful Intelligent Personal Assistants (IPAs) of Voice Assistants, such as Apple's Siri, Microsoft's Cortana, Google Assistant, Amazon's Echo/Alexa, Samsung's Bixby, IBM's Watson, etc. ASR is highly multidisciplinary field that requires expertise from various areas, such as linguistics, phonetics, artificial intelligence, signal processing, pattern recognition, neuroscience, psychology, natural language processing, etc. The design of the ASR system depends upon various things, such as near-field vs. far-field speech, recording and transmission channel conditions, acoustic model, language model, signal degradation conditions (acoustic noise),  etc. Thus, building an ASR system means, "Designing an aeroplane without knowing how birds fly."

Understanding these technological challenges is the major goal of S4P 2024. In addition, the recent research work related to the development of ASR (both from academic and industry perspectives) will also be covered in this summer school. This summer school will be highly benefited by invited talks from eminent and world-class researchers from academia, industry and research laboratories from India and abroad. In addition, S4P 2024 is highly benefited by world-renowned international program committee (PC) members. Furthermore, to encourage young talent, the school presents a fifth edition of the 5 Minutes PhD Thesis Contest (5MPT) with four cash prizes. Finally, S4P2024 will also have a second edition of a special session on  industry perspective talks by the experts from speech technology of industries.

Details of the Technical Program are available here.

 For Ph.D. Scholars: 5 Minutes Ph.D. Contest.
