5 MPT

The summer school at DA-IICT announces the fifth edition of 5 minute Ph.D. thesis (5MPT) contest after four such successful events in India during S4P 2019, S4P 2018, S4P 2017, S4P 2016, where several doctoral students across India and abroad have participated. The main aim of this event is to provide a unique opportunity for doctoral students to present their research work concisely in the broad areas of speech and audio signal processing in 5 minutes. Doctoral students will get an opportunity to interact with eminent researchers both from academia and industry. This will help them to gain visibility of their work and improve their research communication skills. Based on the reviews of the presentations by a panel of international experts, four scholars will be awarded cash prizes.

This event is motivated by the 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) competition at University of Queensland (UQ), (URL: http://threeminutethesis.org/) started in 2008 where 160 Ph.D. students participated. Since then, a similar concept has been followed by various universities and international conferences across the world. Recently, European Signal Processing Conference (EUSIPCO) organized 3MT challenge every year. (URL: http://eusipco2019.org/call-for-3-minute-thesis/).

1)  Eligibility: Any Ph.D. student who has registered for summer school, S4P 2024.

2) Application: Participants must submit a one-page summary of their research work along with a list of publications (if any) and a brief bio-data to S4P 2024 secretariat (e-mail: s4p.daiict@gmail.com). The deadline is extended to June 30, 2024.

3) Selection Criteria: The applications will be shortlisted by members of the internationally well-known expert committee. Shortlisted participants for presentations will be notified via email/notifications on a website.

4) The presentation must not exceed more than 5 minutes.

5) The decision of the expert committee shall be final in shortlisting and selection for the award of prizes.

1) First Prize: Rs. 15,000 /-

2) Second Prize: Rs. 10,000 /-

3) Third Prize: Rs. 5,000 /-

4) Fourth Prize: Rs. 3,000 /-
