Scheduling
For the most effective response to tutoring, students over the age of 6 will require a minimum of two 45 minute sessions a week. For students who need significant intervention three 45 minute sessions is ideal. For younger students or those with significant attention concerns, three or four 25 minute sessions may be considered weekly. Please note: I do not offer once a week tutoring or offer sessions on weekends.
Tech Requirements/Materials
Materials Needed for Online Sessions (will be discussed at initial meeting)
desktop computer or laptop (tools are limited if Chromebooks or iPads are used)
headphones with microphone or quiet location with good internal microphone and speaker
pen /paper
printer or method of reading/handwriting on PDF documents (such as an iPad with Apple Pencil or stylus)
Gmail account only for tutoring to share documents accessible to the child during lesson. Parents may set this up for their child at no charge. For safety, parents should have the log-in to the account at all times.
Helpful, but not required:
document camera or second device to use a document camera
mouse and/or Wacom
Dry erase/markers/dry erase board (or paper with page protector)/eraser
Tote bag, basket or large folder to keep materials together
Parental Support
Parents and other “helpful adults” are essential to successful tutoring sessions. For the first few online lessons, it is required for parents to sit next to the student and assist with materials and tech issues. This also allows the parent/adult to learn methodology, terminology and procedures used in lessons. After the student gains more independence, a responsible adult must be available to assist during every session, but will not be required to sit with the child. The adult must remain on the premises during the entire session. The parent will be expected to help the child print documents and collect materials for each session
Billing/Payment
Billing is monthly due on the first of the month for the upcoming month. New students are currently starting at $75 session/$40 for 25 minute sessions, which includes planning, preparation and administrative time. This rate is "locked in" for the next six months once you begin.
No Show Policy/Changes
Students who do not join planned sessions within 15 minutes of the start time will be considered a "no show" and the meeting will end. A full session will be charged for this meeting and no make up will be offered.
Changes to our regular schedule should be made at least a week in advance.
If a child is too sick to attend a session or there is an emergency, please notify by email and/or text as soon as possible. Make up sessions will be attempted, but based on mutual availability. Regular last-minute cancellations will not be rescheduled and may be a cause for cancelling your regular time slot.
Contracts
When we begin to work together, we are establishing an ongoing working relationship and there is no obligation apart from a monthly basis. The time slots I have reserved for your child will continue to the next month as long as payment is received by the 1st of the month. If payment is not received, I may schedule another student in the time slot.
Please keep in mind that students need consistency and each lesson builds on the next. Some of my students may need some time to build trust in our work together and to feel safe in making errors. Frequent switching of instructors can be detrimental to student progress both emotionally and academically. I make it a personal policy to not accept a student unless I can commit to at least an academic year of instruction.
