Lessons are based on the Orton-Gillingham Approach utilizing multi-sensory methodology, with close attention to error patterns, and constant review. Each lesson is individualized and tailored to your child's needs.
Sample Reading Lesson Template:
phonological or morphology awareness activity
handwriting instruction (if needed)
learned words practice
visual and auditory sound drill
review reading and spelling words, phrases, sentence patterns
new information introduced

reading connected text (paragraph or book)

That's a lot to include in just 45 minutes! We work quickly and efficiently during our lessons, but in a predictable way so that transition time is minimized and the student understands what to expect. We may find that some days we need to spend a bit more time on a particular section or skip a section.
It may take a few weeks to build up to a quick pace and learn the routines. Although there is review and repetition, boredom is not an issue. Older students enjoy watching their progress! For younger students, I might bring in a favorite character or game to help with motivation, but they are too soon proud of their progress and the effectiveness of our sessions.
