WHAT IS SHOCKWAVE THERAPY?

Originally used in the 1980’s for surgery-free disintegration of kidney stones, Shockwave Therapy has been developed into a non-surgical, highly effective treatment for long-term orthopaedic conditions and is recognised by NICE (National Institute for Care & Excellence).

Ballistic, high-energy impulses effectively take the injured or diseased tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments) from chronic to an acute state thereby activating the regenerative process and accelerating healing thus reducing pain and improving function and mobility. As it is a non-invasive procedure there is no risk of infection, tendon rupture or other complications occasionally associated with injections or surgery.

WHAT CONDITIONS CAN IT TREAT?

Shockwave Therapy has been clinically proven to be highly effective (85% compared with 50% steroid injections) in the treatment of ligaments and tendons of the rotator cuff (shoulder), Achilles, knees, tennis/golfers elbow, trigger points, bursitis, plantar fasciitis and associated heel spurs to name but a few.

Treatments are not recommended for children, if you have a blood disorder, if you are pregnant or for generalised aches and pains e.g. fibromyalgia.

DOES IT HURT?

It can be slightly uncomfortable but generally most people can tolerate a little discomfort.

ARE THERE ANY SIDE EFFECTS?
Treatments may occasionally cause irritation, swelling or bruising.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?
Results are not instant however, weekly sessions range from as little as three but may require up to seven depending on the severity of your injury, your state of health and lifestyle.
