Learning Environment – The competent teacher structures a safe and healthy learning environment that facilitates cultural and linguistic responsiveness, emotional well-being, self-efficacy, positive social interaction, mutual respect, active engagement, academic risk-taking, self-motivation, and personal goal-setting.
This artifact was created through Wix, a web design tool that allowed me to create and expand on expectations, an outline, questions, and any concerns that may arise within the classroom. Using a brief introduction about myself and a classroom layout I was able to invite my viewers to meet me and see what my classroom is all about. I also covered a general basis of rules and procedures, rewards and consequences, and diversity with the classroom and the school. This artifact was produced to detail channeling my own ability to navigate forms of technology, incorporate them into the classroom, and to show and outline how the classroom could be ran using the expectations that would be within the learning process.
This artifact is important for many reasons especially for the competent teacher to understand and put into practice the expectation that they perceive within the structure and environment of their classroom. Creating a community of trust and emotional well-being in the classroom will foster a true learning environment so students feel comfortable taking academic risks, are able to self-advocate for themselves.
While designing and creating this Wix website, I learned that a classroom requires defining and outlining rules and procedures with much more detail and thought than I thought. This website has taught me to clearly define the classroom in such detail that things that are stated can’t be argued. This concrete evidence suggests a clear and concise classroom plan that makes the learning process much easier to manage. I myself feel that what is known and expected must be outlined to cover problems that may arise within the classroom. A key takeaway is defining the rules and procedures to everything in between to the best of my knowledge. I imagined anticipating what could arise throughout the day and planned for the classroom to run smoothly. This was a great exercise to complete; learning throughout the whole process. I learned that defining rules, expectations, and procedures are important to classroom management. I also learned to take it to a more personal level in order to establish a trusting connection between my students and their parents. Creating meaningful student involvement and expanding students horizons by incorporating technology can open a student’s eyes to the experiences and interests of the teacher to broarding their own horizons by asking them to contribute. It was important to me that the users of this website found it friendly to navigate as well as using the right language in order to have clear understanding. As I created this website, I left room for improvement, but not leaving it too broad, I like that one log onto the site and make changes when necessary. I also learned from this artifact that technology is a tool to invite not just my students into our everyday world, but also for other teachers, administrators, and parents to acquaint themselves to me and the students. Using this website creates connections on an everyday level with classwork, homework, and a blog as well as a as-needed basis with the defined rules and expectations. I forsee the future and necessity of having a well-defined technological connection as one of the most important tools for well functioning classroom.
