Planning for Differentiated Instruction – The competent teacher plans and designs instruction based on content-area knowledge, diverse student characteristics, student performance data, curriculum goals, and the community context. The teacher plans for ongoing student growth and achievement.
Accommodation and Modification artifact allowed me to figure out strategies to use with students with disabilities. When focused on planning for instruction and instructional delivery. Being able to analyze diverse student characteristics while planning towards mastery of our curriculum goals allowed me to craft unique lessons. In addition, it allows me to adapt lessons moving forward based on student performance data gathered daily.
The artifact helped me understand the needs of an individual to enhance the student’s learning in the classroom. I approached this by collaborating with the cooperating teacher to adapt and modify instruction “works with others to adapt and modify instruction to meet individual student needs” (3P) (ISBE, 2013). Collaborating with other staff allowed me to deliver modified instruction almost seamlessly to meet individual student needs.
This artifact allowed me to gain further understanding of the importance of instructional delivery across a spectrum for students’ multi-faceted needs that require modifications and adaptations. For example, I would adapt the lesson summative to support the accommodations of students within my classes by creating several different versions that allowed students to have, for example, reduced choices or word banks. I will further explore this artifact and continue to learn test-taking strategies that will assist me in the future for additional growth.
