Responsive Services Highlight
Goal: By the end of the 2025-2026 school year, based on recommendation from staff and parents and needs assessment data, a minimum of ten counseling small groups will be organized, planned and delivered.
The school counselor collaborated with teachers and parents to form small groups based on student needs. Small group topics included: anxiety, impulse control, family changes, self-esteem, growth mindset, friendships, following directions, and emotional regulation.
Each group would meet once a week for a minimum of six weeks for 20-30 minutes each session. Parents and teachers were updated with a note of topics covered after each session.
The goal is that students are better equipped with strategies needed to support their academic, emotional and social growth.
Artifact #6 - Example of Data Outcome
Impulse Control Small Group Data
Data for small groups is gathered through the use of pre and post-outcome surveys as well as parent and teacher communication.
The group met for six sessions over six weeks for 30 minutes each session. Four students participated in the group- three were teacher referrals and one student was referred by their parent. During the group we focused on: real-life examples of impulse control and what it is, the pause-think-act model (stoplight visual), personal strategies to use instead of making an impulsive choice, coping skills, the idea of consequences (both negative and positive), making responsible choices, and conflict resolution.
Below is the data from this impulse control small group conducted in the Fall of 2025. Seven questions were on each of the surveys with answer choices of 'no', 'maybe' and 'yes' with a possible total score of twenty-one.
