Use of Implementation Cycle
The purpose of the Counseling Advisory Committee is to ensure the counseling program is meeting the needs of our campus. Throughout our meetings, the Counseling Advisory Committee discussed the counseling program, the Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs, counseling SMART goals, and data from the 2023-2024 school year (needs assessments- school and district wide, Emergent Tree Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Screeners, and office referral data). Based on the data, feedback, and our discussions, the committee worked together in determining program effectiveness and provided recommendations for the counseling program for the 2024-2025 school year.
Example of Implementation Cycle
Organization: Through the use of a needs assessment of parents/guardians, staff members, and students, it was determined classroom guidance lessons are 'very needed'.
SMART Goal (Guidance Curriculum): The counselor will plan and deliver monthly guidance lessons to all 34 classes (PreK-Fourth Grades) focusing on our monthly CharacterStrong traits and ChildBuilders anti-victimization curriculum which is aligned with our campus and district mission. To further promote our monthly character traits, a Buffalo of the Month celebration will be held each month where each homeroom teacher nominates one student who demonstrates the designated character trait. Students will be recognized and given a yard sign to display.
Planning: The school counselor collaborated with teachers, staff members, and parents/guardians to create a monthly schedule, newsletters and celebrations for each character trait.
Designing: Resources were gathered and tailored for each monthly character trait. Counseling guidance lessons, newsletters, and celebrations were outlined.
Implementing: Dates and times were set for the guidance lessons and character trait celebrations. The school counselor met with each homeroom and held character trait celebrations once a month.
Evaluating: An end of the year needs assessment was conducted and looked at the effectiveness and overall thoughts of both guidance lessons and character celebrations (Buffalo of the Month). Findings and information regarding both were shared with the Counseling Advisory Committee, parents/guardians and staff, and will be utilized in planning for the 2025-2026 school year.
