My name is TJ Hyam and I have been involved in rugby as a player and coach since I was six years old. I have been a qualified teacher for seven years, and Head of Rugby in two independent schools since 2019, alongside coaching in performance settings with Exeter Chiefs, Harlequins, England Schools, County and Divisional representative rugby.
As a Head of Rugby I have spent the last five years creating a unique programme of rugby that enhances the teaching and understanding of rugby for children aged from 6 years old to18 using language and strategies pitched and broken down to the level of young children, with excellent results. This unique proposition and experience is what makes Ruggerbees unique to any of its rugby coaching competitors.
I have felt strongly that young players miss out on progressing their technical and tactical development in the younger ages. With the current system lacking rigour to support young rugby players and coaches to support with the relevant expertise, leaving a vast gap of development between "rugby tots" and performance pathways. I believe this to be due to the challenges in conveying the complexities of rugby to young people, alongside the current rugby pyramid failing to challenge them or motivate them enough to want to progress. Imagine an U8 with the capability to pass 15M off both hands? Try and consider a world where an U10 knows the complexities of the ruck area? Or an U15 who has developed his technical skills to truly take a step into an elite pathway and not fall short? These are the achievements we have found through our coaching and we are here to bring it to you!
Ruggerbees will help your child understand the game of rugby through the eyes of ruggerbee himself and his friends, such as Rocky the Rhino, Larry the Leech, Ziggy the Zebra and Ollie the Octopus bringing the learning to your child's level. Our training camps, skills development centres, group sessions and 1-2-1s could all be the perfect fit for your child. We are not just a "kids" programme we also have the expertise to extend and challenge your child with over 10 years experience working in academies, national rugby centres and in elite pathways, to add value to your child's journey when Ruggerbee is no longer cool.......
We also offer our coach education and development service, having helped manage over hundreds of coaches helping support them in developing their practice. Allow us to come to your club, school and see how our coach education offer can support your establishment or personal coaching journey.
Our programmes are suitable for all ages and will allow your child to progress their technical skill development, relevant to their current performance or position, ruggerbees will offer aspiring rugby players the opportunity to have regular sessions and grow their love and understanding of the game like they have never experienced before.
