To be successful in taking online classes via Canvas, students need a desktop or laptop computer (a mobile device like Android or iOS smartphone and tablets have limitations in Canvas) with an Internet connection. Here's list of what's needed:
Speakers and microphone or a headset with a microphone
A built-in camera or web (cam)era that can be attached to the computer
Internet access. Comcast is providing free internet access for 60 days to new Internet Essentials customers. Xfinity is offering free Internet access via hotspots.
While it is possible to access Canvas from an Android/iOS smartphone or tablet using the Canvas App or the device's browser, Canvas tools and features may not function as expected compared to working in a Canvas course from a fully-supported desktop/laptop computer's browser.
Please do not attempt to do the following using an Android or iOS smartphone or tablet:
graded discussion forum/posts
graded writing assignments
graded quizzes
Instead, use a laptop or desktop computer for the best user experience in Canvas. For more information about using a mobile smart phone or tablet, visit Student Guides for Android and iOS Mobile Devices

Web-based classes involve sharing, uploading, and downloading software that, when infected with viruses, might be harmful to the entire system. Therefore, some simple actions will be required from you to prevent computer viruses and other forms of destructive software.
Computer viruses can cause damage to your computer and the files stored in it. If you send a file with a virus to someone else in your class, that person's computer may become "infected" as well. Anti-virus software is available to help protect your computer. https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-antivirus-protection
