Ph.D. in Chemical and Materials Engineering

The Ecel at IIT Goa is currently seeking highly motivated Ph.D. candidates with a strong interest in Electrochemical Energy Conversion and Storage Processes. If you are passionate about advancing cutting-edge research and making impactful contributions to this field, we encourage you to apply!

Applications are open for both the Autumn (April) and Spring (October) semesters and can be submitted via the IIT Goa website.

Eligibility for Admission to the Ph.D. programme :

Candidates must meet the Institute’s Ph.D. admission criteria and hold one of the following qualifications for pursuing a Ph.D. in (a) Chemical Engineering or (b)Materials Engineering:

1. B.E./B.Tech. or M.E./M.Tech or equivalent degree in Chemical Engineering or any branch of Engineering, Technology, and Interdisciplinary areas with an academic background consistent with the research areas of the Chemical and Materials Engineering program of IIT Goa.

2. Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree with a 4-year/8-semester or equivalent degree with an academic background consistent with the research areas of the Chemical and Materials Engineering program of IIT Goa.

3. M.Sc. in disciplines consistent with the research areas of the Chemical and Materials Engineering program of IIT Goa.

Ph.D. research topics offered by  Ecel:

• Investigation of various electrode materials and redox couples for flow battery

• Design and synthesis of new electrocatalysts for water electrolysis to produce green hydrogen

• Investigation of redox mediators to decouple water electrolysis

• An approach to integrate electrochemical devices

• Design and development of a prototype device for the electrochemical production of ammonia

• Synthesis and characterization of various nanomaterials for electrochemical applications
