Roy's books are fictional accounts based on historical events leading up to, and following, the early settlement of Sydney in the British penal colony of New South Wales (Australia). Covering the period 1790 to 1841 the books follow the lives of various members of an Irish family as they learn to cope with the upheaval of being torn from their homeland and being thrust into a strange new land on the other side of the world. The books should appeal to the reader who enjoys a family saga of action, adventure and a hint of romance. Many of the incidents portrayed are based on actual events that occurred during those times.
