Alex won the Best Poster Communication Award in the Biology category at the 2024 Science Atlantic Biology & Applied Aquatic Sciences Conference in Halifax!
Alex is a former Rourke Lab volunteer who is conducting his biology honours research under Dr. Grant's supervision. Through research collaboration with Rourke Lab, Alex is investigating anti-cancer activity of organic compounds with a novel Michael acceptor functioning group in colon cancer cells.

"Dr. Jill Rourke is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Mount Allison University, where she is dedicated to providing students with rewarding research and experiential learning experiences. Her research focuses on understanding the molecular mechanisms of toxicology and pharmacology, with a specific interest in identifying new therapeutics for cancer and other diseases. Dr. Rourke's innovative work has led to the development of the Centre for Toxicological and Pharmacological Discovery (CTAP), an enhanced molecular biology lab on campus that provides undergraduate students with access to industry-level equipment and valuable research opportunities. Through her leadership and mentorship, Dr. Rourke is helping to shape the next generation of scientists and researchers."
SunMin and Grace won 1st place in the oral presentation category for their research presentation at the 2023 Canadian Undergraduate Conference on Healthcare organized by Queen's University. Leading up to the conference, their abstract was also published in the Undergraduate Research in Natural and Clinical Science and Technology (URNCST) Journal, 2023: 7(2).
SunMin recently presented her research at the Ygnite Conference organized by the Korean-American Scientists and Engineers Association where she won the outstanding poster award in the undergraduate category! The Ygnite conference hosts scientists of Korean heritage to celebrate the amazing advances they are making in their field and to empower future generations.
SunMin was selected as the recipient of the People's Choice Award at the 2022 NBHRF Health Research Week! This award is given out of all posters at the conference, up to the research associate level, based on public voting.

Dr. Rourke was honoured as New Brunswick Health Research Foundation's (NBHRF) 2021 Mentor of the Year after having been named as Mentor of the Month for March 2021. Congratulations, Dr. Rourke!
Over the course of her Master's degree (2020-2022), Madeline received the New Brunswick Innovation Fund (NBIF) STEM Graduate scholarship, Robert Lewis Rice Memorial Graduate Fellowship, as well as the NSERC Alexander Graham Bell Canada Graduate Scholarship Master’s (CGS-M).
Madeline was a finalist for the Master's poster competition at the New Brusnwick Health Research Foundation's 2020 Health Research Week. Her abstract was also published as part of the Canadian Society of Pharmacology and Experimental annual conference in 2021.
Maggie was awarded the MASU Departmental Award for Biochemistry and the Frances S. Allison & A. Jane Avard Eaton Student Leadership Awards at the 2021 Graduating Class Virtual Last Lecture. Congratulations, Maggie!

Nick was awarded 3rd place for his poster presentation at the 11th annual New Brunswick Health Research Foundation's 2019 Health Research Week. Nick is now pursuing his Ph.D. in Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto.
