You and your group will be creating an informational poster that teaches your viewer a little about one topic that was taught to you during our digital citizenship lessons with Ms. Crupie and Mrs. Dosch.
You will be assigned 1 topic. The topics are listed below, with a little information to help you remember what their purposes were.
URL: The web address for any website. Stands for "Universal Resource Locator." Always double-check to make sure you're actually on the page you're looking for.
Headlines and related articles: Headlines show the topic of an article, but sometimes exaggerate or say something different from the article to get you to click on them. Related articles could be opinion pieces or other things that aren't news articles but connect to the subject of the article.
Images (or videos): Shows information in picture or video format. The image will connect to the subject of the article. Might be too crazy to be true, or misleading, or might be advertisements.
Sponsored content: Companies can sponsor websites and pay to have their site advertised. Can include shocking headlines or wild images to get you to click on them.
Advertisements: Can be disguised to look like news articles. They will try to sell you something.
Comments: Are open for anyone to post, even if what they have to say is mean or completely untrue.
Phishing - An attempt to scam you or trick you into sharing login information or other personal information online. Phishing is usually done through email, ads, or sites that look similar to other popular sites.
Catfishing - Creating a fake identity or account on a social networking service to trick people into sharing their personal information or into believing they’re talking to a real person behind a legitimate account, profile, or page.
Clickbait - Manipulative online content, posts, or ads designed to capture people's attention and get the user to click on a link or webpage, often to grow views or site traffic in order to make money.
Identify Theft - Can be done in many ways (phone, gaming, website, etc.) with the intent to steal personal information for financial gain.
Malware - Harmful software that is specifically designed to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to a computer system.
