MGMT 303-Principles of Management
This course examines the nature of managerial work under a range of business models and under rapidly changing business conditions. Managerial functions and activities such as planning, organizing, leading and controlling are examined in depth and in the context of current organizational examples and scenarios. Students will look at the variety of pressures contemporary managers face; clients and competitors, leaders above and colleagues that report to you, organizational demands and personal goals. I have developed this course for face to face, hybrid and online modalities. I have taught 72 sections of this course since 2015. I am constantly revising and bringing new innovations to each modality of this course. Every two years I update the curriculum and re-record the lectures at GMU-TV.
MGMT 461-Cross Cultural Management
This course we seek to expand your global mindset and provide you with theories, knowledge and practical tools that you can use to achieve success in the global business environment. We explore the challenges of managing across the varied customs and practices of the world, including the nature of cultural differences, the challenges of cross-cultural communication, the development of internationally sophisticated employees, teams and managers, and common ethical challenges. We focus on how managers and employees can improve their global mindset and effectively execute the international strategies of the firm. This course is taught face to face, hybrid and online. I have taught 10 sections of this course. For three years I taught this courses face to face and in 2019 I was asked to develop the online version of this course. This year I have reformatted this course to become hybrid based on student feedback.
MBA 695 Global Perspectives
The global residency is the hallmark of the George Mason MBA program and provides a platform to develop and deepen a global mindset. The course builds on the foundations developed in the MBA program and is designed to give students an opportunity to develop personal familiarity with the global environment and issues faced by global managers. Beyond the social and cultural dimensions that the residency explores, the course will focus on developing an increased understanding of global markets, competition, and business opportunities. By providing opportunities to hear directly from managers in country, the residency will build on the foundations developed in the MBA program. We explore applications of core ideas in situations involving organizational adaptation and change to develop new perspectives on the roles of information, technology, and market forces in influencing business opportunities and performance. I work directly with study abroad vendors to plan a strategic on-site cultural experiences and visits to various companies for the students.
