Rose Rank and File (RRF) is an informal network of library workers from the New York Public Library Guild, Local 1930, fighting for a strong, effective, and democratic union.
Through outreach, solidarity building, and campaigns, Rose Rank and File offers a vision for:
Ensures members understand how decisions are made and works to guarantee that every member has voice in democratically shaping the union’s priorities
Champions robust rank-and-file participation in all union meetings, elections, and initiatives
Communicates proactively and transparently, removing any barriers that prevent access to union information while protecting union members confidentiality
Prioritizes the needs of our workers on the frontline, especially those workers in the lowest-paid and least secure positions
Advocates for improved working conditions through a holistic and expansive idea of safety that includes adequate staffing, meaningful accommodations, intellectual safety, and centers non-carceral practices
Defends workers facing censorship and retaliation within the library and supports workers targeted by groups and organizations from outside the library
Values accountability, responsiveness, clarity, timeliness, collaboration, and follow-through from our elected board
Strategically and unwaveringly negotiates with New York Public Library management on working conditions and library policies that affect the well-being of our members
Rejects uninspired DC 37 business unionism in favor of a class struggle unionism that provides dignified lives for workers and their families
Resists narratives of municipal austerity that affect the working-class communities that are home to our patrons and ourselves
Allies with union siblings across the library field, New York City, and the public sector to build collective power
Organizes the rank and file around issues that center Black, Indigenous, brown, LGBTQIA+, disabled, incarcerated, underserved and other marginalized groups in New York City
Builds cross-title solidarity and culture of sustainability among rank-and-file workers at the New York Public Library to build a union that endures into the future
Does not compromise on the interests of our new and future colleagues
Supports the organizing efforts of Local 1930 retirees, for their current struggles are also the future struggles of active workers
