We have been learning to connect ideas that are similar by using hexagons. We drew our favourite thing from the Howick Village and then decided what connected our ideas together. Some things were connected because they were buildings, some were all made of wood, and some moved with wheels.

Some of our reading groups have been practicing a play. We have been working on taking turns, reading with expression, and making sure we pause for punctuation. Have a listen to one of our plays!

Maths

We are still working on subtraction. We are reading word problems and looking for maths clues that could help us work out how many to take away. Here is Leila's way of working it out using playdough.

Maths

We have been learning about subtraction in maths, and are learning to use a range of materials to help us. Look at how many ways we can solve a problem!

Inquiry

We played guess who with our baby photos this week. We had to look at things that were the same about a person, and something that had changed. We then guessed who everyone was. There were a few surprises! We learnt that someone's hair can be red when they are born, and turn blond as they get older.

We're improving our gymnastics skills every time we go! On the beam, we are learning to walk in small steps with our arms out for balance and beginning to get head and eyes looking straight ahead. Take a look at us go!

We are also learning how to safely do a forward roll. This means our chin is tucked in and our hands are out flat.

Writing

We used our inquiry focus 'The Past' to help us with our writing this week. We made popcorn in a pot, the way they would have made it in the olden days, and focused on recounting how we made it. We also made microwave popcorn and popcorn in a popcorn maker, and finally designed our own future way for making popcorn. It had to be faster, less messy and even easier to eat! We knew that it needed heat to make. Here is Zara's future popcorn maker!

The squares learnt about money in maths and how there are lots of ways we can make $10. Here are the ways we figured out so far.
