We see this often if you've recently updated versions of Minecraft. Somehow, the key for the Code Builder becomes unassigned.
Press ESC to open Settings
Scroll down to Controls > "Keyboard and Mouse" on the left side
Scroll down to "Code Builder" on the right side
Click on "Unassigned" and then press C to assign it to Code Builder
Press ESC twice to return to the game.
This is a more complex problem that may have a few possible solutions, depending on the device you're on.
This thread on the support forums has a number of potential solutions.
This usually works for me:
Close out of Minecraft
In File Explorer, navigate to C:\Users\AppData\Local\Temp
Note: Depending on whether you're using the Store or Installer version of Minecraft Education, this might be in "Roaming" instead of Local. All other steps are the same.
Find a folder called minecraftpe\codeBuilderV1
Rename this folder (or delete, or zip it up and send to us for troubleshooting)
Then launch Minecraft again and see if Code Builder comes up
If you can't find a working solution, you may need to reach out to Minecraft to open a support ticket, or reply to the thread linked above on the support forums.
If you registered for a missed session, you can still access the recording through the link you received when you booked. You can also check the main Minecraft page for a link to register for access to the asynchronous recorded lesson.
Rare but known bug. Sometimes the quest marker displayed at the bottom of the screen will fail to progress when you complete a task (for example, you visit all the petroforms, talk to Diane, talk to Chickadee, but Chickadee doesn't give the recipe book and the screen still says "Speak to Chickadee").
Unfortunately, the only thing to do in this situation is to load a fresh copy of the game and start again. If you have to do this, we recommend exporting your portfolio and notebook from your old world to add them to the notes you're taking from the new one.
One potential solution for reducing the risk of this happening is to go into the video settings and turning the render distance down to around 4.
If your students are having trouble getting past the parkour section:
Press Esc or open their settings
Make sure you're in the "game" setting
Change personal game mode to "creative"
Double tap the spacebar to fly
Fly over the parkour
Change the game mode back to "adventure" -- this step is crucial
Rare but known bug. Sometimes you'll complete a puzzle and a door will open, but the next puzzle pieces won't "load in."
Unfortunately, the only thing to do in this situation is to load a fresh copy of the game and start again.
You can also access copies of the world at every stage in this folder and share those with your students. Mummy Mayhem World Backups Folder.
